Reading the Gazette I note from your report of the reluctance of Chippenham Town Council to accept the cost of filling grit bins which would be supplied by Wiltshire Council at no cost.

It would appear that Chippenham Town Council employs two people, both called Adrian Jones, one who only a couple of months ago, persuaded the amenities committee to spend £80,000 on a splash pool for John Coles Park.

The other one advised the same committee this week that the cost of filling the salt bins, at an estimated cost of £500, would “stretch resources considerably” and recommended refusal, which was obeyed.

Now both Adrian Jones, unless there is only one suffering from split personality, cannot be right. So would the CEO (who used to be called town clerk) advise me which one is right?

On another matter, not related to the above, would someone tell your reporter Craig Jones that Wiltshire Council did not make 250 redundant, but that 250 volunteered to go, as the financial package they were offered to was too good to miss.

Peter Slatter, Elmwood, Chippenham.
