Drivers in Chippenham were offered forecourt eye screening for Road Safety Week in a bid to cut accidents caused by poor vision.
Haine & Smith opticians and the Esso petrol station in Malmesbury Road joined forces as part of a national campaign to help reduce the estimated 3,000 casualties a year where eyesight is a key factor.
Mayor of Chippenham Sylvia Gibson was among the drivers offered a free check by a qualified optician.
Gareth Millard, of Haine & Smith, said: “This was a great opportunity for people to become more responsible drivers and we really hope this activity encourages more people to get regular eye examinations – both for their own safety and other road users too.”
