MORE than £500 was raised for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal at Devizes Town Band’s Remembrance Day concert in the town hall last week.
The band fielded its largest turnout ever, with 34 musicians performing a range of music under the baton of musical director Sharon Lindo.
There was an arrangement of Glenn Miller songs and wartime favourites such as Dolly Gray and the Quartermaster’s Store.
Film and TV music included the evocative Hymn to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan, the march from The Great Escape, and Casablanca favourite As Time Goes By.
The evening finished with a dramatic rendition of a medley from Les Misérables, followed by an encore.
