PEOPLE who care for relatives or friends can attend an event in Devizes to help them hold down a paid job.

It takes place at the town hall on Friday, November 29, from 11am to 2.30pm to help support unpaid carers into employment.

The event, organised by Carer Support Wiltshire as part of Carers Rights Day, will give carers the chance to meet representatives of organisations who can offer them advice about staying in paid employment alongside their caring role.

Organisations will include the National Careers Service, Job Centre Plus health and disability advisers, Department for Work and Pensions, Wiltshire Citizens Advice, Wiltshire College and a local community-based UK online centre run by and for carers.

Visitors can learn about carer-related benefits, get one-to-one budgeting advice, CV writing skills, interview tips and the best ways to hunt for a job online.

Debbie Martindale, events co-ordinator at Carer Support Wiltshire, said: “There are over three million working carers in the UK and trying to juggle caring with a job can be incredibly stressful and hard to manage. Carers Rights Day is the perfect time to meet people who can give guidance to cope with the pressures of work.”

Admission is free and refreshments will be available.
