SUPPORTERS of Children in Need went potty for Pudsey on Friday as they came up with a variety of wacky stunts to raise money.

At Devizes School sixth formers dressed in onesies or pyjamas.

Onesies were also the order of the day for most staff members at Heathcote House Nursery School in Devizes, while some of the children were dressed as Spiderman and Batman.

The nursery also let staff and children have crazy hair and one boy had a red mohican while staff member Jo Nash had pig tails with pipecleaners in.

Nursery cook Andzejs Karpous made a chocolate and orange fudge cake and parents bid for it and it sold for £10. In all, the nursery raised about £75.

Deputy principal Kelly Sunderland said: “It’s really good that Children in Need is helping children in the UK.

“We talked to the children about where the money raised goes to and that children who don’t have much money can’t afford toys.”

Members of Devizes Lions entertained shoppers in The Brittox as they dressed up as clowns on Thursday and raised about £540.

Lions member Jerry King said: “An enjoyable day was had by all and the amount raised was well up on last year, we were very pleased and thank everyone for their support.”

In the Marlborough area, children at Sixpenny day nursery and pre-school raised more than £100 for Children in Need after taking part in a week packed full of different activities.

Fundraising started on Monday with a colouring competition and continued with a bear hunt round the nursery’s garden in Mildenhall collecting coloured Pudsey dots.

Throughout the week children enjoyed a pyjama day, when they also dressed their teddy bears in pyjamas, a fancy dress and face-painting day, and a teddy bear’s picnic.

On Friday, pre-school children baked Pudsey biscuits in the nursery’s kitchen, making the dough from scratch and decorating them.

Nursery manager Toni Holness said: “It was really creative and a little bit messy, there was flour everywhere.

“It’s been busy but enjoyable – they loved it, especially coming in dressed in their pyjamas.

“It’s the main charity that we support each year.”

Five pupils at St Francis School, Pewsey, organised fundraising there and raised £1,344, smashing the £1,000 target.

Headteacher David Sibson, who wore a yellow onesie, said “It’s fanstasic, that five of our pupils used their initiative and organised a fun day for the whole school themselves.”
