A 67-year-old man has died after he fell from his bicycle in Corsham on Tuesday.

Robin Bryars was found lying unconscious in the middle of Dickens Avenue at around 7.30am. He was rushed to Frenchay Hospital, and pronounced dead on Wednesday, shortly after lunchtime.

He is believed to have suffered a brain haemorrhage, and was only metres from his home when he collapsed.

He regularly helped with deliveries at Barnett Bros newsagents in the High Street, and was found lying next to the orange bag he carried his newspapers in.

Owner Sanjeevan Singh said: “He was a friend who would often help out. Sometimes the regular paperboys don’t turn up, so we would call him and he’d do their deliveries.

“We saw him early that morning and he was absolutely fine.

“He’s very active, you always saw him around on his bike, and he’d often pop into the store every now and then just to say hello, and to bring in apples.”

He had lived on Dickens Avenue with his partner since 1973.

PC Mandie Ball, of the Corsham Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “It was a member of the public who found him, a neighbour leaving for work.

“He was coming home after his delivery when he came off his bike. We believe there were no vehicles or other people involved.”

The road was closed for approximately three hours whilst enquiries at the scene took place.

Officers from the Wiltshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT) are currently investigating the circumstances around the incident and would like to hear from anyone who saw Mr Bryars cycling in the Dickens Avenue Area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Steve Cox on 101.
