Pupils at Langley Fitzurse Primary School in Kington Langley went back in time to meet Hrothgar the Viking, who showed them life in ancient Britain during a learning history day.

The pupils, in Years 3 and 4, were taken back to Hrothgar’s camp, and shown his tent, weapons and artefacts, including axes, daggers, swords and spears.

They built a fire, prepared food and entertained visiting parents with a selection of songs based on Viking sagas.

Class teacher Suki Pascoe said hiring Hrothgar, also known as Roger Barry, had helped to bring the school curriculum to life and meant pupils were able to have questions answered by an expert.

She said: “We found him online and he came three years ago when we had a similar event. He does themed education days and he knows his subject inside out.”
