Police in Calne are urging motorists to take extra care during the winter months after a number of accidents in the past week.

Police were called to Bremhill, just past the Dumb Post Inn, on November 8 at 9.14am after a Peugeot travelling down a hill lost control, skidded, and rolled onto its roof. The driver refused any medical assistance and was apparently uninjured, but the car blocked the road.

On the same day a caller reported the male driver of a Hyundai, believed to be driving at an excessive speed, along the A4 at Pewsham at 1.25pm near the Lysley Arms – a 40mph zone.

Problems are also being caused by tractor mud on the road and police are advising drivers to be aware of this.

On November 4 at 2.40pm, a caller reported mud on the road outside a farm in Stockley after struggling to get through the patch.

A farmer based in Sandy Lane also called to request official police signs on November 5 after seeing motorists speed past after ignoring his own warning signs about mud on the road.

PCSO Shelley Gray said: “People should be taking notice of any signs that say ‘slow, mud on the road’.

“With the dark nights, people may be leaving a bit later from work because they’re not getting up first thing in the morning.

“They should be aware of the rain, the mud, and conditions associated with the colder weather.”
