A THEATRE school is coming to Malmesbury, bringing with it stars of stage and screen.

The independent company, Shine on Stage, has confirmed plans to open in the town in January. And to promote it, there will be free performing arts classes at an open day at The Activity Zone on November 23.

West End performer Jeff Nicholson, who performed in Les Mis on stage for four years and also appeared in the film adaption, will be teaching at the open day later this month.

“We are thrilled and very privileged to have him,” said Alice Jackson, founder and principal of Shine on Stage.

Mrs Jackson, a classically trained actress, taught Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson to dance for their roles in The Other Boleyn Girl. She said: “We already have some students driving from Malmesbury to Stroud and parents have been asking us to come here. I love the independent nature of the high street and as we are a small business as well it seemed like the perfect location to us.”

The theatre company will be offering tuition in drama, singing and dance every Saturday in term time with numerous masterclasses with West End performers.

Shine On Stage, founded in 2008, has hosted performers from The Lion King, Les Miserables, Hairspray, We Will Rock You, The Sound of Music and Wicked.

All stage school pupils take part in an end of year show allowing the youngsters to be showcased.

Shine On Stage also offer the LAMDA drama examinations and theatre trips.
