I was interested in the letters from Mr and Mrs Whitfield (October 31) and Mr Hunter (November 7) about the new A360 direct bus service to Salisbury.

You were kind enough to publicise it when it first started, and there was a timetable posted at the bus island in Devizes and also in the local timetable booklet.

Now the notice on the bus stop has disappeared, and Wiltshire Council is no longer distributing timetables, so the only way to find out about it is on the Traveline website, which is not very user-friendly.

I understand that the bus needs to get to and from Salisbury anyway, to operate the Park and Ride service there, and this is why the return service runs so early, and at almost the same time as a Wilts and Dorset number 2 bus.

Incidentally there is a gap in the Wilts and Dorset timetable an hour later, which it would be really helpful for this bus to fill.

It would be even more valuable, when the new Stonehenge Visitor Centre opens later this year, to have an hourly service on the route so that visitors to Stonehenge could come on to Devizes and Avebury.

But I sometimes wonder whether the needs of the public are taken into account at all when bus services are planned.
