I was delighted to see your recent article on the current Ball Road planning application. There is much more to this and I should like to add the following important points.

The reason residents were so upset with Wiltshire Council was because many letters didn’t go onto the website for two weeks or more and the council didn’t seem to think this was important.

When tackled they told one resident they would put an ‘IT problem’ notice on their website – they never did.

It was vital that letters got seen by other residents so they could fully appreciate the level and substance of complaint, and the council denied them this.

There were a great many objections sent to the council by post and email. I understand that there are now around 60 letters displayed but we obviously do not know how many were actually received and may still not be loaded onto the site. It is made more difficult to tell as the site has spread the letters throughout various sections. Your picture shows the narrowness of Ball Road and road safety is a key issue that should be stressed.

This is of paramount importance to the majority of residents since pedestrians of all sorts – dog-walkers, the elderly, children, joggers, families – use the lane daily and safety is something of which the council has previously been conscious.

Now the highways department seems to be putting this to one side, notwithstanding it has denied extra vehicular access to the road several times in recent years. If some of the contradictory correspondence is to be believed, they are about to do a complete volte face. I am still waiting for a reply to questions sent to them five months ago.
