Two children, aged seven and nine, were taken to the Bath Royal United Hospital this afternoon following a crash on the A4 near West Cepen Way in Chippenham.
They were in a Ford Fiesta being driven by their mother when it was in collision with a blue Peugeot at around 3pm.
Police say the mother is believed to have suffered “serious breakages”, and was airlifted to hospital.
The male driver of the Peugeot is not believed to be seriously injured, but has also been taken to the RUH.
The road has been closed and is not expected to reopen until after the rush hour ends, say police.
