A holiday club which provides activities for children and adults with physical and learning difficulties is the second charity to receive £200 after being nominated in our Sainsbury’s campaign.

North Wilts Holiday Club has been chosen for the grant and the money will go towards the charity’s activity days, which include cookery days, entertainment from clowns, and painting and craft days.

The activity days are held at St Nicholas School in Chippenham and they provide a break for parents who often work as full-time carers looking after their children.

Amanda Sperritt, of Wood Lane, Chippenham, has been a volunteer with the charity for 12 years and said it was a nice surprise to receive the money from Sainsbury’s.

She said: “It will help towards next year, our target is probably around £25,000 to run the activities.

“It’s quite expensive because we need one-on-one support for the children.

“All the people that run it are volunteers, but we need to pay care staff.

“A lot of families don’t get any other breaks. There’s very little support for families with special needs, for a lot of them we’re absolutely vital.

“The children wouldn’t get any activities otherwise because they can’t access mainstream activities.

“It’s getting harder and harder to raise money with the economic downturn. We have been thinking that we might have to close over the past few years, so getting grants like this is really helpful.”

You can nominate your local charity to receive a £200 donation from Sainsbury’s, Chippenham.

The charities’ initiatives will need to include health, families or children and the donations cannot be for specific individuals. All the cheques will be presented to the five charities at Sainsbury’s Chippenham on December 4 at the store’s Christmas taster evening.
