Devizes Town Council has agreed to more cycle stands being put in one part of the Market Place but to remove one stand from another location.

Cycle Devizes wants to increase the number of cycle stands in the town to encourage cycling but town councilors were concerned about some of the proposals for the Market Place.

A working group, comprising Cycle Devizes members, a Devizes Community Area Partnership representative and town councillors visited the proposed locations in the Market Place and as a result the proposed site near WH Smith has been withdrawn by Cycle Devizes.

The working group recommended that another four hoops should be put ouside Winkworths estate agent next to the bus shelter. There are currently two hoops there.

This was supported by the town council’s planning committee at a meeting on Tuesday night.

The working group could not agree on the final site outside HSBC where there is a redundant traffic sign post hoop used by cyclists.

At the meeting on Tuesday councillors supported a proposal by Coun Jeff Ody to remove the hoop.
