Royal Wootton Bassett in Bloom’s Champion Garden award winner Stephen Roberts was amazed to receive the trophy and certificate last week.
Deputy mayor Sue Hughes revisited his garden in Green Park for the presentation.
Coun Hughes said: “His wonderful garden is like another world. It just shows what can be achieved in a small area.”
Mr Roberts has created a lily pond, in which there are goldfish, tench and golden rudd. A smaller pool is in a wildlife section that accommodates great crested newts, frogs, toads and grass snakes.
The garden has 27 different varieties of acer, flowering cherry, clematis, canna lilies (red and yellow), hostas, yucca, and alpines, a peach tree and an orange tree that have both borne fruit.
“This is a very sheltered garden, but I take some plants indoors in the winter,” Mr Roberts said.
Mr Roberts said that his enthusiasm for gardening began 25 years ago, when he lived in Cricklade. He has developed his present garden over the past 16 years.
