Children at Cherhill Primary School enjoyed five days of story-telling during National Children’s Book Week and took part in a dressing up day inspired by fiction characters.
Every pupil dressed as their favourite hero or heroine. Headteacher Terry Hall dressed as Cruella de Vil and other costumes included Harry Potter, Just William, Little Red Riding Hood and Winnie the Pooh.
During the week teachers swapped classes to read to different children, parents came in as volunteer readers and librarian Laura Ashford led a workshop based on The Gruffalo for younger pupils.
On Thursday evening 120 children also returned to school in their pyjamas for a popular bedtime story session with cuddly toys, hot chocolate and biscuits.
Deputy headteacher Helen Lammin, who dressed up as Robin Hood, said: “We had one child who was a wardrobe, from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It lifted over his head, but he struggled to sit down.”
