A PLEA has been made for new people to join the Market Lavington branch of the Royal British Legion otherwise it will close or merge.

Writing in the village magazine Brian Hunt, the branch secretary, said: “Personally speaking, it will be a sad day to see this branch close as I have given 16 years to this branch committee since its rebirth in 1997 and I certainly do not wish to see it close but reality speaks for itself, as members do not turn up for meetings or turn out for functions.

“So the signs show that the interest has completely died and therefore this branch deserves to be closed or merged with other branches.”

The annual general meeting is on November 26 at the Green Dragon pub at 8pm.
