ALZHEIMER’S Support is seeking volunteers at GP surgeries to help explain the symptoms of memory loss.
The campaign, funded by Comic Relief, follows a survey which showed people in Wiltshire waited around 16 months before going to the doctor with memory worries. It showed that most people delayed because they thought their symptoms were normal or that there was nothing that could be done to help.
Volunteer Frances Lythell, a retired civil servant, is at Giffords surgery, Melksham, every other Wednesday and Thursday and will be at the Bradford on Avon Health Centre every other Monday from November 4.
She said: “We know that some people worry about their memories when they don’t need to, while others might have real cause for concern but don’t see the point of seeking help. Our role is to give out general information about the benefits of having a diagnosis.”
