I read the letter ‘Bridge has been forgotten’ (Gazette, October 10) concerning Lowden bridge.
As the local Chippenham town councillor and Wiltshire councillor in whose ward this bridge is situated, I can assure residents that Lowden bridge has not been forgotten. Improvements to lighting have already been approved by the Chippenham Area Board and should be installed early next year.
In addition, subject to the area board’s approval, a feasibility study is going to look at the concept of installing shuttle working signals.
The difference between Sheldon and Lowden tunnels is the difficulty of making changes to Lowden and the cost being much higher for Lowden tunnel.
Residents can rest assured that everything possible is being done to protect their safety.
Linda Packard, Wiltshire and Chippenham Councillor
