Volunteer menders will be at Shalbourne Church, near Marlborough, on Saturday morning to help people to repair household items instead of throwing them away.

The Fix and Repair Café was inspired by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust which has held similar sessions for a year.

Between 10am and noon people can bring items that they don’t know how to use or are broken to the church where seven volunteers will try to make them work.

Organiser Stephen Trapnell said: “People in the village have the expertise to help others who are having problems with an item.

“For example I get flummoxed with mobile phones because they don’t always work in the village.”

People with a broken flymo and strimmer are to attend.

Menders will fix china, glass, bikes, tools, electrical items, furniture and fabrics.

Visitors will make a donation to cover costs and coffee will be served.
