Visitors to Cherhill can try their hand at competitions, children’s races and even scuba diving during an autumn fair on September 14.

The event will be held on the lawns of the manor house from 1pm to 4pm and will follow on from last year’s popular Jubilee fete.

There will be stalls selling crafts, books, honey and jewellery, and plants from Cherhill Gardening Club. There will also be games, a tombola, a raffle and refreshments.

A particular highlight will be the chance to try scuba diving in the manor swimming pool. Divers will be under the supervision of Calne Diving Club, which will provide all the gear.

Open water instructor and club chairman John Dodsworth said: “It’s the first year we’ve done it, because we have a few members from Cherhill now.

“We like supporting all these local events – it’s something different for us. The activities will depend on how comfortable they are diving.

“For some people it might just be breathing under the water. Other people might just want to swim up and down for a bit, but there are various skills that can be taught. We will only go if people book us, so get in touch.”

To book a session call Jake Bodman on 07921 395127.

Admission to the fair is free and all money raised will go towards the St James Church restoration fund.
