I visited Allington Farm Cafe on July 25 with a friend and was absolutely disgusted with the treatment we received.

My friend and I both have children and chose this cafe as we considered it a family friendly establishment. However, part way through our lunch, we were approached by a member of staff and asked if we could stop my son from squealing so much as apparently a customer had complained.

My son is less than one year old and squeals with excitement when he is happy, just like any other child of his age. Despite us explaining that this is normal child behaviour and very unfair to ask or expect a child to be seen and not heard, we were made to feel very unwelcome.

I appreciate that customer views have to be taken into consideration and I am not complaining about the other customer. But I am appalled that a member of staff could not deal with the complaint in a suitable manner, and considered it appropriate to pass it on to us. They should have considered the rights of a happy 11-month-old baby.

Maybe it should have been suggested by the member of staff that the customer complaining should be the one who left as they were the one with the problem and if they didn’t like children and their squeals of excitement, maybe they should go to a non-family friendly cafe.

I have never been made to feel so angry, humiliated and upset. Despite writing and emailing a complaint letter similar to this to the cafe I have had no apology. I like to think this is an isolated incident, but it has put me off ever going back.
