Roundway Parish Council is objecting to the planning application to build up to 260 houses next to Lay Wood in the neighbouring parish of Bishops Cannings.
At a meeting held on July 15 the parish council agreed to object saying that the application does not address the requirements of the Wiltshire Core Strategy or emerging neighbourhood plan, particularly in relation to demand for affordable housing in the area.
Coun Andy Geddes, chairman of the council’s planning committee, said: “The proposed development would also create significant pressure on local infrastructure, especially as regards health care provision, schools and transport.”
Bishops Cannings Parish Council and Devizes Town Council have also objected to the plan submitted by The Crown Estate.
The Crown Estate maintains the application is a better alternative to the plan for 350 houses next to Coate Bridge by Mactaggart and Mickel.
