Eileen Lockett, 90, the widow of the Rev George Lockett, a former Wootton Bassett Methodist minister and local councillor, has died in retirement at Nailsea, near Bristol.
Mrs Lockett, who was born into a farming family in March 1923, combined her teaching career with family life and work in the church. Her four children – Ruth, Paul, Catherine and David – went to school in Wootton Bassett.
Mrs Lockett always enjoyed dance and country life; she was a keen walker, bird watcher and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust supporter. She shared her husband’s pacifist views and was a staunch supporter of CND and Amnesty International. She maintained links with her friends, including those at Royal Wootton Bassett, and will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be welcome at a thanksgiving service on August 8, at Nailsea Methodist Church at 2pm.
