A new Indian restaurant in Devizes will be serving up ostrich and tropical water fish.

1Spice owner Sohidul Hossain said: “It is unusual to see ostrich on the menu at an Indian restaurant. It is truly delicious with a gentle touch of Indian spice. You hardly ever see tropical water fish on an Indian restaurant’s menu. We think we are good at cooking them with our passion and hence putting them on our menu for our customers to explore the difference in taste.”

The tropical water fish are Rohu and Silver Pomfret, which can be found in Bangladesh.

Mr Hossain said the menu is extensive with a wide variety of choice and includes fresh vegetables sourced locally.

He also owns Zeera Indian takeaway in Market Lavington, which he has run for about the last six years. He said he and his partners had been looking for a suitable location in Devizes to open a restaurant for a long time.

It is in the same premises formally known as Jal Khabar, a Bangladeshi restaurant in Maryport Street, which opened seven years ago. It opens tomorrow.

Mr Hossain said: “We found this premises ideal to make our dreams come true.

“Me and my partners have always thought there was a big demand for a contemporary Indian restaurant in Devizes.

“As we have been living locally for many years we thought people were crying out for a better Indian dining place with a variation of healthy Indian food.”
