After a three-year break the Marlborough Fun Day returned to the Common on Sunday and was so successful that a date for next year has already been set.

The day included a dog show, a children’s fancy dress competition and helicopter rides over the town. All the money raised on the day will be donated to Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The event was organised by the former Marlborough Carnival group but there has not been an event since 2010.

Caroline Hadden, chairman of the fun day committee, said: “It was a lot of fun, we had a lovely day.

“It was a wee bit too hot but that didn’t seem to put people off, we still had a really good turnout.

“We had good feedback from most of the trade stall owners I spoke to and more than 80 cars turned up for the car boot sale, which is a record.

“The helicopter was up and down non-stop.

“The dog show was a resounding success, it was a bit hot for the poor little hounds but the owners were happy so we’re really pleased with how it went.

“You know you’ve done well when the judges for the dog show were asking if they could keep their badges so they could come back and do it again next year.

“We only had from April to get everything organised so I’m really happy with how everything went and it can only get better.”

Mrs Hadden praised the committee, without whom she said the day would not have been possible.

She said: “I’d also like to get more people involved, so if anyone has any ideas about what we could do to make it better they should get in touch.”

The fun day will be held on July 13 next year.
