Children in Marlborough have the chance to showcase their singing talent by joining a new choir.

The choir, for seven to 12-year-olds, is the idea of Andrew Brown, organist at St George’s Church, Pre-shute, who was inspired by the success of the adult choir.

He said: “We’ve had an adult choir for about six years which is called The Georgians because we are based at St George’s church.

“It has grown and grown and we perform four times a year at Christmas, Easter and two other special occasions.

“We have members of all ages, from teenagers to people in retirement, and we have so much fun that I thought it would be a good idea to do something similar for young children.”

The new choir – The Junior Georgians – has been publicised in the parish news letter, local school and in posters on the High Street.

Mr Brown has been singing since he was nine and he will run the project with the help of his wife, Amanda, and pianist Heather Croucher.

They are looking for between eight and 10 budding singers to join the choir.

Mr Brown said: “I’ve advertised the choir for the last couple of weeks and so far four children have shown an interest.

“We’re hoping there will be four performances and the rehearsals will start about three weeks before. They will be informal with games, singing activities and team activities as well as learning the piece off by heart.”

The first performance will be at the Harvest Service and rehearsals will start on Saturday, September 21.
