Many people head to the seaside in sunny weather but for youngsters and their parents in Great Cheverell, the beach came to them.

Old School Nursery in the village obtained 1.5 tonnes of sand to create a beach where staff and families had a lunch.

Nursery owner Rhona Welham had the idea as the children had been learning about nature and previous topics had been mud and gravel.

Mrs Welham said: “We had £100 worth of new sand toys for the children to play with and as they dug they listened to the sounds of the sea lapping onto the shore.”

As 34 of the children are moving on to primary school in September, the occasion also included them saying goodbye to staff member Carol Clay who is retiring.
