The owners of the former St Peter’s Primary School in Bath Road, Devizes, are preparing to submit plans to build houses on the site.

The school closed at Easter last year and owners, the Salisbury Diocesan Board of Education, has been unable to find a buyer who wants to retain the building.

St Peter’s, which opened in 1870, was replaced by The Trinity Primary School, a new school next to the Quakers Walk housing development, off London Road.

Now the Board has decided it will apply for outline planning permission to demolish the building and build 29 homes and 64 parking spaces.

The homes would comprise 16 flats and 13 houses with the flats fronting Bath Road and the houses backing on to the Kennet and Avon Canal.

A four-page leaflet outlining the plans has been sent to local residents and the information is also online at www.stpetersdevizes.co.uk where the Board’s agents, Savills, are asking for comments by July 26.
