Organisers of the Barbury international horse trials, due to start today, promise it will offer something for everyone.

The eventing competition at Barbury Castle Estate, near Marlborough, culminates with the world-class three-star cross-country phase on Sunday and boasts an impressive roll of honour.

Last year, world number one event rider Andrew Nicholson took the first and second spots with Avebury and Quimbo respectively.

Across the four days Olympic-level horses and riders will take centre stage, with dressage taking place from today and cross country for the novice competition and the two-star event on Friday and Saturday.

Away from the equestrian activities, a food lovers’ paradise centred round the CGA Festival of Food will run over the weekend, featuring a series of cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs including Brian Turner, of Ready Steady Cook fame, and 2012 Masterchef finalist Andrew Kojima.

There will also be a variety of homemade produce and innovative cookery ideas on a variety of stalls.

There is family fun with The Amazing Bike Show, sheep and gun dog displays and birds of prey, a hound parade and the ‘lamb national’ race.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance has been chosen as the nominated charity across the four-day event. The appeal’s It’s A Knockout Competition on Sunday will raise funds, when teams of businesses will take part in a version of the popular 1980s TV show.

Tickets are £12 in advance, or £18 on the day. Call (01672) 516125 or visit www.barburyhorsetrials.co.uk
