Teenager Millie Stephens shaved her head to raise more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Millie, 13, of Lidbrook, Calne, was inspired by pop singer Jessie J – a coach on BBC One singing talent show The Voice – who raised money for Comic Relief by doing the same.

The teenager went to the Escape Hair and Beauty Salon, in Wood Street, Calne, to have her hair cut by hairdresser Kiera Edwards.

Her hair has been donated to The Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs and hair pieces for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer.

Millie, a Year 8 student at John Bentley School, said: “I did tell my teachers I was going to do it but I didn’t think any of them would believe it. When I came into school with no hair they were shocked, but really proud. Everyone is proud of me.

“It’s started to grow back quite quick. I had really long blonde hair, but I dyed it dark brown and now it’s going to come back blonde.”

Mum Claire Barker said: “I’m very proud of her – we all are. She’s had nothing but support.”
