Auctioneer Richard Edmonds may have what Andy Murray has been looking for in his quest to win Wimbledon this year.

A four feet high, over sized tennis racquet has been included in The Chippenham Auction Rooms collector’s sale this Saturday.

The old promotional item has come in from a private source and is valued at £350-£400.

“It really is an extraordinary item,” the auctioneer said. “It would give Andy Murray more of a chance of striking the ball. I just hope somebody has the guts to buy it, it truly will be an ace sale.”

A fabulous model steam engine will make sure The Chippenham Auction Rooms Collectors sale gets on the right track on Saturday.

It has come from a closing museum in Devon so it is in immaculate working condition and the valuation reflects that at £1,000-£1,500.

It was made by Charles Burrell & Sons of Thetford in Norfolk, one of the most famous manufacturers of traction engines, agricultural machinery, steam trucks and steam tram engines in the world. They operated from the St Nicholas works on Minstergate and St Nicholas Street some of which survives today.

There is also a huge cigarette card collection containing approximately 2,000 examples. They show stars of the world of sport from the early 20th century including cricketers and boxers such as Joe Lewis.

The auction also contains various advertising ephemera including a rare United Kingdom Tea Company enamel sign. Although in a slightly worn state it will still achieve a good price and has been valued at £200-£300.

The auction will be held at The Chippenham Auction Rooms Ivy Road salerooms on Saturday beginning at 10am.
