Keen sportsman Nick Paget has set himself the challenge of playing golf from dawn until dusk.

Mr Paget, a 35-year-old building surveyor, hopes to raise money for Parkinson’s UK and Macmillan Cancer Support as they have supported his father, Jim Paget, 68 of Devizes, who has both conditions.

The challenge will be taking place tomorrow at North Wilts Golf Club near Bishops Cannings, where Nick Paget has been a member since the age of ten.

He will be walking around the hilly course while friends and family members will support him by driving a buggy around and offering drinks and caddying. The course will be open as normal.

Mr Paget, of Cornfield Road, Devizes, said: “In the past year I have done several things for Parkinson’s UK. I needed a different way to raise the money so I had the idea of playing golf all day. I don’t know anyone who has ever done it.

“I will be walking around the course and it will be more speed-based golf. I won’t be taking six practice shots before I hit a ball.

“I think the difficulties might be my hands blistering and the distance. Until you get to tackle it, it’s difficult to work out what it will be like. I think the other golf club members think I’m daft.”

Mr Paget plays off a golf handicap of six and hopes to play at least seven rounds of golf. The most he has played in one day is two rounds, or 36 holes.

He said: “As soon as it gets light I will start and I will finish either when it gets dark or until I collapse. I think it works out about five miles a round.”

He has asked club members to guess how many shots he will hit for £1 a go and also has an online donation site at uk.virginmoney giving.com/NickPaget Mr Paget said his father has had Parkinson’s for ten years and is undergoing radiotherapy for cancer.
