Toots and the Maytals are to miss the WOMAD festival after Toots Hibbert suffered a head injury at the River Rock Festival in Virginia last month.

Toots, who was hit by a bottle during the event, is still undergoing treatment and his doctors advised that he cancel all his summer UK tour dates.

The WOMAD team has wished him all the best for a speedy recovery and hopes to welcome him to the festival soon again.

WOMAD, which takes place from July 25-28 near Malmesbury, will be announcing an new addition to the line up soon.

Toots' management said in a statement: "This regrettable decision was made by the medical team realizing that any performances at this time could seriously compromise Toots' health.

"Toots thanks all of his fans worldwide who have expressed their concern and sent their messages and prayers in emails and postings on facebook.

"Toots' health is the priority and therefore while the cancellation is regrettable, we trust you understand it."
