I was shocked to see in the recent Public Accounts report into Police and Crime Commissioner interests, that our PCC, Angus Macpherson, has nine other jobs apart from PCC.

He runs his own accountancy firm, Angus Macpherson Ltd; is a director for Haven Heights and San Cepriano (both sizable development companies) and is a company secretary for Stainless Design Ltd and Holiday Services Ltd.

In addition, he is heavily involved in three charities and a school.

The last three are commendable but I have to ask where he fits in the time to be PCC?

As an ex-company director myself for a medium-sized company, I know the legal duties placed upon me by the Companies Act meant I had to commit between 10 to 20 days a year to this role. Is Mr MacPherson doing the same? If so, he must be absent from his PCC duties for about 100 days a year.

I also note the office of the PCC in Wiltshire is now costing us more than the old Police Authority.

I was dubious about the introduction of PCCs but I did vote. All the candidates made a great play of giving the role their full attention.

I feel we are being shortchanged by our PCC and he should concentrate on the one job that matters to the people of Wiltshire and give it his full attention.
