According to your paper a sum of £200,000 will be spent on putting lights on the Green in Devizes in order that pedestrians can walk safely without colliding with cyclists. A cycle lamp set, front and rear, costs £20. I suggest that the powers-that-be buy every cyclist who uses the Green at night a set.
The surplus could go towards an accident and emergency department which we don’t have in the town, to where any pedestrian unfortunately hit by a lampless bicycle rider could be conveyed.
I think the people of Devizes need to be told where this money is coming from and how much will it cost to light the lights and maintain them?
