Connie Wigham, of Calne, died on May 28 after a short illness, at the age of 89.

Mrs Wigham was born in Kent on May 10, 1924 and was part of a large family made up of four brothers and three sisters, Edith, Florrie, Phyllis, Ken, Ronnie, Victor and Charlie.

She lived in a children’s home with her sister Phyllis around the age of nine, at a time when their mum was unable to care for them. Later they worked together for a dress-making company in London and Phyllis taught her to sew.

After the Second World War Mrs Wigham met her husband Len at a dance and they were married on December 22, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Bexleyheath.

The couple lived in Swanley, Kent, and Durham before moving to Baydon Grove, Calne, in 1970. They worked at the KAM Circuits Factory on the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate, where Mrs Wigham was a circuit board operator.

Together they had three daughters, Gillian, Elaine and Tina, four grandsons, Adrian, Lee, Lloyd and Daniel, and three great grandchildren, Tyler, Darcy and Ella.

Mrs Wigham loved dancing and music, including music by Glen Miller and Engelbert Humperdinck.

She often attended dances at the Conservative Clubs in Calne and Royal Wootton Basset with her husband.

She also enjoyed holidays with him to Cyprus and Torquay before they retired.

After her husband’s death Mrs Wigham moved to The Glebe, Calne, and her favourite past-time was shopping.

She spent many days in the town centre, where she enjoyed talking with friends and the local retailers, who knew her well.

Towards the end of her life she went to live with her daughter Tina in Goole, Yorkshire, after breaking her hip. She died at the Windsor Court Residential Home, in Yorkshire.

Her family said she was a “loving mother and a good friend with a bubbly character” who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

They said she was very well liked and loved by everyone who met her and brought a smile to everyone.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday at St Mary’s Church, Church Street, Calne at 2.30pm and afterwards in the Lansdowne Hotel.
