The 8th Bowood Charity Dog Show and Summer Fair takes place this weekend and is expected to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.

The show takes place on Sunday and was started by Lady Lansdowne to benefit Macmillan Cancer Support after nurses from the charity cared for her father.

Since its beginning it has raised £163,000 for organisations including Wiltshire Blind Association, Wiltshire Bobby Van and Age UK.

Lady Lansdowne has four dogs herself, a Labrador named Tulip and three spaniels named Brae, Berry and Maudie.

She said the dog show will include family and fun classes, with companion classes for pedigree dogs, and an agility course.

She said: “We reckon we get at least 1,000 dogs of all shapes and sizes. It’s completely independent, it’s down to our Kennel Club judges and may the best dog win. We get more and more people every year – there are 85 trade stands and 45 food and catering stands “I would think we will get 5,000 to 6,000 people.”

Tractor Ted’s Farm show will also be at Bowood, offering a wide range of activities from sheep shearing and bale wrapping demonstrations to a tyre repair centre and tractor and trailer rides.

David Horler, co-creator of Tractor Ted, said: “We like to have a farm show to show our young people what farming is about. It’s an amazing day out for the family. Bowood is such a beautiful setting.”

The day runs from 10am to 5pm. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children aged two to 16. All the money paid at the gate goes directly to charity.
