Pupils of Queen’s Crescent School in Chippenham donned wigs for the day in support of cancer sufferers who have lost their hair.
The Chippenham primary school raised more than £175 for CLIC Sargent, a charity that helps young people with cancer and their families.
They made donations to come to school with a bad hair day or a colourful wig. They also organised a flash mob, assembling suddenly to dance to You Can’t Stop the Beat from the John Travolta film Hairspray then quickly dispersing.
Sheila Copeman, governor of Queen’s Crescent School, said: “Doing a flash mob is something new to our school and we had many positive comments from the parents. It also was a great energetic way to end the day and raise more money for such a worthwhile cause.”
Ten children and young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer every day.
Sophie Porfirio, CLIC Sargent fundraising manager for Wiltshire, said hair loss was one particularly upsetting aspect of the disease and this initiative aimed to support those patients.
