Partygoers from across Wiltshire have helped people down on their luck by donating £740 to Devizes Food Bank.

Ali Storey from Pewsey, a member of online party organiser Desperate Dancers, handed the money to the food bank’s co-ordinator Alan Beamish at the headquarters of Gaiger Brothers in Devizes on Monday.

Mr Beamish said: “They made a heap of money by charging £15 for these dances and they split it between us and the Samaritans. We are extremely grateful for this donation. Demand for our services is growing all the time.

“We work with 45 different agencies and distribute a tonne of food every month, most of it tinned food. Each family gets three boxes a week but that is not the end of it. We help them sort out benefit problems as well.

“Some 99 per cent of the food goes out through the agencies but more recently people have been contacting us directly. We would rather they went through Wiltshire Council on the special helpline 0300 456 0100.”
