Hillworth Park in Devizes was packed on Sunday with people attending the Big Lunch.

The event, a national initiative, encourages people to come together to share food, friendship and fun.

There was not much grass to be seen as almost every bit of it was occupied by families and friends enjoying a picnic or ice creams from the park cafe.

Entertainment comprised a DJ broadcasting live on Fantasy FM, acoustic musician Steve Robinson, magician Mad Pete, face painting and Funky Arthouse, who were helping people to make carnival masks.

Devizes Mayor Pete Smith was also there having earlier attended the earlier Market Place ceremony in which the 1st Rifles were granted the Freedom of the Town.

Emma Millett, manager of the cafe, said the Big Lunch was a fantastic occasion. “It was really sunny and the park was packed,” she said.

“It was a lovely chilled out Sunday afternoon and no-one wanted to leave. I went home at 7pm and some people stayed until 8 or 9pm.”
