It took Michelangelo four years to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, but street artist Luke Hollingworth rattled off his version in his garden shed in three days.
Mr Hollingworth, of Gastons Road, Malmesbury, came up with the idea in his second attempt to win the overall Shed of the Year title, having come third last year.
The father-of-one, who paints under the alias Syd, finished his masterpiece after three days of frantic painting and named it the Sydstine Chapel.
He said: “I spent the first day cutting stencils and making the designs. With artwork you always get a feeling it’s not going to work but it’s turned out well.”
Voting has closed for Shed of the Year, in which last year he won the workshop/studio category but missed out on the overall title. He is now waiting to find out if he has qualified.
Mr Hollingworth admits his wife Mandy has become a ‘shed widow’ and is often left holding their 10-month-old daughter, Daisy.
He said: “I’ve promised to take her away camping for a weekend. Whatever happens, it was a team effort.
“I’ve been to the Sistine Chapel, about three or four years ago, and it stays in the mind as a piece of art.
“I come from a Catholic background, but am no longer practising, and I have thoughts of faith going round my head not dissimilar to Michelangelo’s.
“Some panels (of the shed) question faith and science. One piece is called the temptation of Adam and Steve, Steve being Steve Jobs and Apple taking over the world.”
The results of the contest will be announced in Shed Week, which starts on July 1.
