Calne teenager Khauleel Lee-Joseph, who had to be restrained by police after an argument outside a pub, hopes to turn his life around by joining the Royal Marines.

Lee-Joseph, 18, of Bishop Road, had been banned from the London Road Inn in Calne before the dispute leading to his arrest on February 22.

Appearing at North West Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court on Thursday he pleaded guilty to threatening pub landlord Geoffrey Snoad and his father Stephen with intent to cause fear of violence.

But magistrates learned that the teenager, who started working for  McDonald’s in the last four weeks, also holds a provisional offer of acceptance from the Navy.

Lee-Joseph was in the London Road Inn with a group of friends when he spotted Geoffrey Snoad and went up to ask him why he was banned.

In a statement read out to the court Lee-Joseph admitted squaring up to Stephen Snoad after being told to leave the pub.

He also said: “I accept that when the police arrived I acted violently towards them and had to be restrained.”

Defence solicitor Andrew Watts-Jones said Lee-Joseph already has a conditional discharge for a previous offence, lasting until March next year, and urged the magistrates not to impose another to protect his chances of joining the Royal Marines.

He said joining the Navy would teach the teenager discipline.

Magistrates fined Lee-Joseph £90 and wished him luck with his application to join the Navy.
