Malmesbury nature reserve Lower Moor Farm is inviting visitors for an open day this weekend to celebrate Wiltshire’s farming heritage.

Lower Moor Farm is owned by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and combines wildlife and farming.

Neil Pullen, reserve manager, said: “Following on from other successful open farm events that the trust has held we are delighted to lay on some great opportunities at Lower Moor Farm this year.

“We will have lots of things to do, and plenty of other organisations coming to provide visitors with a great day out – and it’s free.”

The event is part of the national Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) Open Farm Sunday.

Children visiting will have the opportunity to climb on the tractors, learn about hay making, meet farm animals and learn about bird ringing.

The more adventurous might enjoy going hunting for amphibians and reptiles with Wiltshire Amphibian and Reptile Group.

On the lake, visitors can take a canoe trip with Thameswey, and try their hand at fly fishing with Mallard Flyfishers.

The Flood Plain Partnership will be on hand to offer a ‘meet the pollinators’ experience to show visitors the importance of bees.

There will also be a barbecue and meat sale by Country Butchers.

Other organisations attending include Oak and Furrow Animal Rescue, Bath and West Community Energy, and the Dogs’ Trust.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s own staff and volunteers will be on hand to run activities for children and take visitors on guided walks around the reserve.

The free open day takes place on Sunday, June 9, from noon to 4pm.
