The quality, wealth and diversity of local food will be celebrated at this year’s Corsham Food & Drink Festival on June 15 in the town centre.

Wines and cheeses, Wiltshire cider, cakes, chocolates and chutneys, breads, oils and ice creams will be among the treats available in the town centre from 9am to 3pm.

The event will build on the success of the past two years with an even wider range of locally-produced food and drink.

The festival programme will include the public launch of Corsham Fairtrade, youngsters can take part in the Children’s Food Quiz, which takes them through the festival, with some tasty treats on the way and there will be free seed planting in Arnold House, next to the newly-launched Made in Corsham shop – along with a choice selection of local food and drink stalls in the town centre.

The festival was first launched in 2011 to publicise the Transcoco ethos of promoting local producers and encouraging people to shop locally.

“I think people are starting to realise that it is a more sustainable way to live, to source food from within your local area and to eat more seasonally and we have a fantastic range of producers in the region,” said Tricia McLeod, co-ordinator of the Transition Community Corsham (Transcoco) Food Group.

“It’s all about encouraging people to shop locally as well – we have an excellent range of independent food shops in Corsham, such as the greengrocers, deli, health food shop, butchers, bakery, and also a Fairtrade supermarket which has been very supportive of some of Transcoco’s projects, such as orchard planting and Corsham Community Bees.”

As well as all manner of mouth-watering produce to try, visitors will enjoy Corsham Summer Festival music and street theatre entertainment and open-air cafes. This year’s festival will also include a ‘Stop & Eat’ area with stalls selling freshly-made wood-fired pizza, hog roast, picnic snacks and delicious coffee and cakes from a vintage horsebox cafe.
