Pewsey could be getting a village flag after the idea was mooted at a parish council meeting.
Councillor Howard Reed suggested the project and will report back to the council about costing.
Coun Reed said: “I was thinking the other day about the centenary of the Alfred statue and I was thinking how nice it would be if we could raise one.
“I would hope that we might be able to persuade the vicar to fly it from the church because you could see it better and I was thinking we could have it as a competition to design the flag, which could involve the schools and the church.”
But Councillor Phil Stevens said: “I think we’d be up for ridicule in these austere times if we’re spending money on flags.”
