Meet Michael McIntyre – and Michael McIntyre.
Lower Compton dad Michael – that’s him in the right of our picture – has been the butt of jokes ever since the comedian who bears his name moved in down the road.
Villagers have been ribbing Mr McIntyre, a housing association worker, after the celebrity bought a £2.5million house in neighbouring Compton Bassett.
Lower Compton’s Mr McIntyre has lived in the area for eight years with his wife Sarah, four daughters and their two-year-old son, also called Michael.
Mr McIntyre said: “It’s a good conversation starter when I say my name is Michael McIntyre. They think it’s hilarious and I get a lot of banter.
“I have often wanted to be a comedian.
“I started off as a comedian but I had to give up because people kept laughing at me.”
Mr McIntyre, 50, met his celebrity namesake during a gig at the Bristol Hippodrome last year and also queued to see him at the Swindon Arts Centre last month.
Mr McIntyre said: “He was quite taken aback. He does a lot of jokes about Michael McIntyres working in local call centres and getting mistaken for him, but I was the first one he had met.
“He’s a good comedian, he’s very engaging, he gets the audience on his side and he’s got some good funny stories. A lot of people like him.
“It’s just a unique coincidence.”
It’s a coincidence that may yet confuse the postman, but Lower Compton’s Michael McIntyre isn’t bothered.
He said: “I’m quite looking forward to receiving some of his cheques or his big flat screen television at my place and he’s welcome to some of my bills.”
