Refreshments and ice creams are on offer for visitors to Jubilee Lake in Royal Wootton Bassett after a tea room was officially opened.

The Jubilee Lake Tea Room will be open every weekend from Friday to Sunday, school holidays and on bank holidays, from 10am to 4pm, until October.

The tea room, run by Richard Allen and Veronica Dance, of Bassett Bar & Catering, has long been requested by visitors. Veronica, who has been in catering for 17 years, said: “We were asked by the town council if we would provide a facility.

“We did a lot of research, asking parents in the playground, and they said they would like something for the children too.

“We have coffees, teas, soft drinks, sandwiches, ice creams and toasties. We are really excited about this. We are confident it will be popular because the local consensus is that people want it.

“There is nothing like this here. People have always had to bring their own refreshments or go back to the High Street in the past.”

A seating area is provided for people who want to take their time over a drink, and biodegradable cups are used for take away drinks. Royal Wootton Bassett Mayor, Mike Leighfield, said he was impressed with the tea room.

He said: “When people are at Jubilee Lake they often ask if there is somewhere they can have a tea or a piece of cake.

“We initially looked at having an ice cream vendor. “Richard and Veronica have taken on the contract on a trial basis for now to see how it works.

“I think it will be very popular, it is another asset for the town.

“A lot of people come to Jubilee Lake, they love it. This is an absolutely fantastic facility.”

Jubilee Lake is popular with anglers, dog walkers and families who enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings and play area.

Richard and Veronica travel around the country with Bassett Bar & Catering and said they are delighted to have opened the tea room in their home town.
