Passenger dies in Melksham crash
11:37am Tuesday 25th December 2012 in News
One person has died and another has suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash outside the Cooper-Avon tyre factory in Melksham in the early hours of Christmas Day.
The Audi A6 lost control on the road opposite the Unicorn pub at around 3.30am striking a brick wall.
One rear seat passenger was killed outright and another has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. There were five people in the car, one woman and four men, who were all in their late 20s and early 30s.
Police investigations are still going on. Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident and anyone who saw the Audi travelling along the A350 and into Melksham is asked to contact the serious collision investigation team through the 101 non-emergency number.

All that said, whoever is to blame, a sad event.

it does seem some age groups want to go faster than others, not saying that is true in this case, ive certainly slowed down over the years though, very very sad.

But I checked on Google satellite and as I thought, Bath Road is blocked by the old "Bell Inn", there is only a bicycle tunnel. How could the car be travelling from Chippenham on Bath Road when it is blocked???

'arry, travel from Chippenham to west farmers (Asda) roundabout and turn left towards the coopertires entrance. That short distance from roundabout to coopertires is great for the boy racers, unfortunately its the sharp right hand bend they struggle with at speed. There is no camber on the bend so lose control on ice or wet road and your in trouble. See it everyday from canteen whilst on break. Accidents are going to happen but not as severe as this one. i'm sure the cause will be out soon.

ah that would partially explain why i took a circular skid there several years ago - i was travelling at a very low speed well within the speed limit and it was not icy as I recall, but there was definitely something odd about that bend.
Fortunately there was no-one else about.
