Pupils of St Nicholas School, Chippenham, sold items they had made at their Christmas fair to raise funds.
The event, last Friday, attracted 86 visitors including people who had become friends of the special school via Twitter.
Items sold included Christmas cards, gifts and homemade mince pies.
The school’s fundraising manager, Bev Crone, said: “As well as visitors from Chippenham we had people from as far away as Devon and Birmingham.
"It was brilliant and we raised £1,700 - double the amount we have raised before.”
Corsham Paralympic swimmer Stephanie Millward, a keen supporter of the school, also attended.
